In network marketing, we are often provided with a self replicating website and tools to put to use like everyone else in the business. The idea is we are buying into a system for a very nominal fee (unlike the cost of a typical franchise business) that is duplicated by everyone who chooses to join you. In addition, people often try to entice others to join their business building up the value of these tools.

The fact is that these tools are only as valuable as the person using it. What becomes more valuable is the value you provide to others and how you make yourself stand out from this system of duplication.

People come into the business of network marketing typically wanting a home based business and for the most part have no business background, finding themselves attracted to the already in place tools to get them started. But once in the business how do you go about attracting others into your business, how do you add value so that you are able to stand out from the masses and become a resource so that people begin to join you regardless of your business opportunity?

 My experience with many of these self-replicating websites is that it is about the company and the opportunity and nothing to do with the individual who is affiliated with the site. You almost become a ghost figure. In fact, it is almost quite difficult to find the contact information and the name is almost so small you could easily miss it from the page. This reminds me of realtors who put their name on a yard sign but all you see is the company logo and franchise name.

Branding is as important to network marketing as it is for a realtor’s survival in real estate. The importance of differentiating oneself from the masses in an industry like real estate determines whether a realtor does ok or makes six figures. This is no different in the network marketing arena. People do business with people they like and trust, bottom line.

So the most basic lesson here is to stop using your company given replicated website address and get your own domain name. The mistake that tends to happen is a prospect lands on your replicated site, then moves away and comes back to the company site and enters their information in. Say goodbye to this prospect.

Branding can cost a lot of money. But if you make some smart decisions, you can do it without a lot of money. Simply, decide what value you have to offer or if you have a particular niche and specialize in this area of business. Then, market and remain consistent! In time, it will pay off.
