I have to be honest and tell you I’m not much into politics. But I also don’t like stupidity…which is maybe why I don’t like politics…
I have a friend named Joe who is running for an empty political seat. Who knows why he wants to put himself through this whole process. But it is what he desires and he happens to be in his element.
While he is on the shorter side of politicians standing only 5 feet 5 inches tall (this might be generous) and would be well served standing on a soap box (literally), his belief is strong and dwarfs his size. I may not agree with all of his points, but I respect him because he is firm in his beliefs.
His desire to participate in the race is driven by his belief, and not about whether people will accept him or not. It is not driven by the likelihood of his win because odds are against him. He dismisses the words of the big parties that try to use intimidation tactics.
There have been videos, emails and phone calls encouraging him to bow out of the race. While he has been told he has no chance of winning he stays firm and determined.
Now there is a very good chance that Joe may not win. Then again, he may.
But should Joe give up because he is less known? Or that because others have predicted the likelihood of his loss? Now I know the laws of engagement in politics are different than possibly business (or not), but regardless of what we do in life, if we give up before we give it our best efforts why bother at all?
The most amazing change in history occurred due to people’s determination and unwillingness to give up regardless of the risk and people’s beliefs.
This recession has beaten people down and drained people of their spirit. But, ask yourself if you are among the masses, who wait to respond to the events in life after it seems well accepted? During these tough economic times are you sitting on your hands waiting for the economy to change your current situation? Or, are you taking part in the shift? Is your belief strong enough to guide you through your fear of change?
While so many people have been impacted by this recession, Warren Buffet and Paul Zane Pilzer declare that over a million millionaires will be coming out of this downward economy. They will not be people who started with money or necessarily had superior education, but people like you, self made millionaires. Is your desire strong enough that you will be among the millions? Or will you be among the masses and wait…
If you believe your past or your present circumstance is a determining factor to your success, you are greatly mistaken. We all have failures. We have all made serious mistakes, worked a dead end job or never had the courage to do something different. But it is what you do today that will pave the road to your future.
It is your willingness and persistence and what you do differently moving forward that determines your future. It is your willingness to stare down the skeptics and the nay sayers! Regardless of the odds and what seems to be the norm, it is your willingness to shape your own future and NOT follow down the same path as the many, that will bring a different result.
This is why I support someone like Joe. He has chosen to take the path less followed and stand tall with his decision. Whether he wins or not, I know that he will forever be changed by his decision to stand behind his beliefs. Whatever he pursues going forward will be even bigger than what he has accomplished in the past!
Ask yourself, “Do I have the courage to face the fear that prevents me from moving ahead?” If not, ask yourself “Why not?”

In all sincerity, nothing is to big. I just ran for one of the most powerful seats in the world, and I did well. If you shoot high, you will do well. You may not make it all the way, but you will do well and where ever that is, it will be further than where you are.
